The firm of Barrett, Bonacci & Van Weele (BB&V) was established for the purpose of providing comprehensive civil engineering, land surveying and planning services to a variety of municipalities and private concerns, continuing a long tradition started by predecessor firms dating back to 1927, In addition, with recent developments in technology, the firm has expanded into the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allowing us to offer extensive services in site selection, database design and development & facilities management.

Because of our vast experience in site development and related projects, we are comfortable as a member of a large team of professionals and consultants. BB&V is aware of the need for constant interaction between team members. Our project managers have the ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of the client and members of the project team. We understand the success of the project depends upon our ability to perform quality work in a timely and professional manner.Our familiarity and close professional working relationship with the personnel and requirements of municipal agencies allow us to provide effective  coordination and support services necessary during the extensive review process.

Barrett, Bonacci & Van Weele, P.C. currently includes four licensed professional engineers and four licensed professional land surveyors among its staff of 43. Office operations are located in Hauppauge, NY.

BBV has successfully completed projects throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island, Westchester and Putnam Counties in upstate New York as well as various locations along the East Coast. The professional staff, with a wide range of experience and education, is able to provide comprehensive services related to the following areas of expertise:

CIVIL ENGINEERING

  • Site planning and engineering for institutions, universities, recreational and athletic complexes, shopping centers, office and industrial parks.
  • Design services for residential and commercial/industrial subdivisions.
  • Storm drainage design, ranging from simple on-site retention systems for parking lots, to extensive storm sewer collection systems for residential and industrial subdivisions, to complex storm water management studies, watershed analysis and detention system design for developers and golf courses.
  • Design of sanitary sewer collection systems, pump stations and denitrification systems.
  • Analysis and design of water distribution systems and backflow prevention installations.
  • Complete engineering for the construction and/or rehabilitation of roadways and highways, including horizontal/vertical alignment and pavement design.
  • Construction administration including the review of shop drawings, construction observation to determine conformance with plans, technical reports and certifications.
  • Design of marine facilities including fixed and floating docks, bulkheads, revetments, erosion protection, groins, beach re-nourishment, etc.

LAND PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS

  • Site evaluations and feasibility studies, preliminary site layout, review for zoning and Health Department conformance, and coordination with various State, County and Local reviewing agencies.

  • Preparation of site engineering related portions of all forms of SEQR documentation, ranging from environmental assessment forms to Environmental Impact Statements.

  • Beach profiling, long term coastal management plans.

In providing these services, the firm is able to employ a wide range of state-of-the-art computer capabilities ranging from Word Processing used in assembling technical specifications, to spreadsheet applications for basic engineering calculations and estimates, to complete field-to-finish surveying and engineering packages including AutoDesk® Land Development Desktop engineering software. Traffic engineering applications are performed with latest versions of the Highway Capacity Software prepared by the Federal Highway Administration. Our computer capabilities allow fast and efficient design of all aspects of site layout, roadway design and grading and construction stakeout and provide earthwork reports.
